HSBC announces it is a major sponsor of the RISE Conference for the second year running. In 2017, HSBC was the first bank to sponsor Asia’s leading startup event.
RISE, which dubs itself the largest tech gathering in Asia, takes place from 9-12 July in Hong Kong and is produced by the team behind Web Summit, Europe’s largest tech conference. Around 15,000 people are expected to attend the event coming from over 100 countries, which will also feature over 300 speakers.
This year, HSBC is sponsoring the RISE PITCH Stage. The PITCH event will see 70 of the world’s leading early-stage startups live onstage competing in front of a panel of judges over the course of three days, with one startup ultimately crowned the winner on the final day of the RISE 2018 event.
Almost 200 HSBC staff will attend the event onsite over the course of the conference to engage with and support the fintech startup community. HSBC is purchasing a substantial number of tickets earmarked by RISE to encourage female participation in technology, which are also being made available publicly.
Darryl West, Group Chief Information Officer, HSBC, commented:
“Technology is clearly a driver of massive change in banking, as in many industries. But perhaps more than any other industry, these changes are being led by our customers and the societies in which they live. Advances in biometrics and security, the rapid evolution of mobile-centred banking, along with developments like open banking are helping reshape the way people interact with their banks.”
Andrew Connell, Global Head of Partnerships and Innovation and Asia Pacific Head of Digital, RBWM, HSBC, added:
“Since the RISE event last year, we have seen a real acceleration in the development of fintech and start-ups in Hong Kong. We welcome this collaboration with RISE as well as future collaborations with fintechs as part of our focus on improving our customers’ financial experiences via platforms such as PayMe, our stock trading app HSBC Easy Invest, and other new functionalities. Our Digital team in Asia has expanded to more than 600 people to meet the demand for digital services.”
As well as contributing nearly 20 judges and emcees to the PITCH event, HSBC will also have presenters on the MoneyConf, PandaConf and Startup University stages, as well as host a workshop and roundtable.
HSBC will also host the Runway to RISE event in Hong Kong. In the lead up to RISE, a series of events will be held across Asia between 17 May and 20 June – taking place in Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, Taipei, Beijing, Bangkok and Shanghai and culminating in the event at the HSBC Main Building on 20 June in Hong Kong. The events are an opportunity for startup community networking, and a pitching competition for a startup to win a free an exhibition stand at RISE.
“We are delighted to again partner with HSBC for RISE. The biggest names in technology, global business leaders, and investors from the world’s most significant funds will be at RISE this year. And with the support of well-established organizations like HSBC, the outlook for Hong Kong entrepreneurs is extremely bright,” said Paddy Cosgrave, Web Summit and RISE CEO.HSBC sponsors RISE, PITCH startup competition (2-page PDF 78KB)
