HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship

  • First Scholarship To Help The Next Generation Get Ready For Careers In The GBA
  • HKD8 million To Be Granted To 100 Local Students
  • HSBC today launched its HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship to support Hong Kong undergraduate students with career dreams of working in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). For the next three academic years, the Bank will grant up to HKD8 million in scholarship funds to 100 students as part of its wider effort to develop talent in this region.

Since 1965, HSBC has been supporting Hong Kong youth through various scholarship schemes. So far, the Bank has granted more than HKD230 million to the HSBC Scholars.

Peter WONG, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive, The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, said, “As an economy, the GBA is the 12th largest in the world. This dynamic urban cluster boasts diverse industries which was valued at USD1.68 trillion last year. The demand for talent will only grow exponentially as businesses become more digital, innovative, and seek to incorporate the latest technologies while transitioning to a green economy. I hope this scholarship will encourage tomorrow’s professionals to expand their horizons as they plan their careers. HSBC is a proud supporter of our home-grown talent who are key to our region’s future prosperity.”

Starting today, 12 local universities and tertiary institutions will be invited to nominate full-time undergraduate students who aspire to work or study in the GBA. Promising candidates who submit their long-range career development plan will be shortlisted and invited for an interview with HSBC senior executives and employee representatives in May 2021. In June 2021, the awardees will be notified and granted HKD80,000 each. HSBC plans to sponsor up to 100 students over the next three academic years.

In addition to the funding, awardees will gain invaluable access to mentorship opportunities with HSBC executives, practical career and business advice from financial leaders who work in the GBA and an opportunity to expand their social and professional network.

HSBC also aims to hire future graduates who are interested in attaining work experience in the GBA under the Hong Kong SAR’s Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Scheme.

HSBC is the largest foreign bank in the GBA with a presence in all 21 prefecture level cities in Guangdong, with a dominant position in Hong Kong and an unrivalled international footprint. The Bank is committed to connecting cross-border needs with seamless customer experiences and integrated offerings.
