HSBC and Hang Seng partner with seven NGOs on post-fire relief

HSBC and Hang Seng Bank have engaged seven community partners, including the Hong Kong Red Cross, Food Angel, the Community Chest of Hong Kong as well as four NGOs participating in the HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme (CPP), to help families and individuals affected by the tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court.

The two banks announced a joint donation of HKD30 million to support immediate relief and rehabilitation work last week. An initial HKD15 million aid will be provided through seven partners:

  • The Hong Kong Red Cross: Providing emergency and recovery cash assistance, mental health and psychosocial support services, and post-disaster community recovery assistance.
  • Food Angel: Delivering food assistance, including cook-chill meals, to individuals and families in need with installation of community fridges in transitional housing.
  • Four CPP partners including Evangelical Lutheran Church Social Service - Hong Kong, Hong Kong Evangelical Church Social Service Limited, Hong Kong Federation of Women’s Centres, and Mission For Migrant Workers: Offering direct support, particularly to victims who have recently relocated to transitional housing.
  • The Community Chest of Hong Kong: Contributing to The Community Chest Tai Po Fire Relief Fund to provide immediate financial assistance to those impacted.

Today’s announcement represents the first phase of the banks’ philanthropic support for the victims of this disaster. HSBC and Hang Seng will continue to explore additional avenues and evaluate how best to support over the mid-to-longer term.
