HSBC celebrates young local talent at Scholars Day 2024

Over 7,200 Students Granted HSBC Scholarships Since 1965

HSBC recognised 284 outstanding students from 20 local universities and higher education institutions at the HSBC Scholars Day 2024, held yesterday at the HSBC Main Building.

HSBC has been committed to nurturing young talents through its scholarship programmes since 1965. Over 59 years, more than 7,200 students from diverse disciplines have been empowered to reach their aspirations through these programmes.

Luanne LIM, Chief Executive Officer, Hong Kong, HSBC, highlighted the importance of fresh and dynamic talent for Hong Kong’s future development. “Our goal is to equip students with the tools to unleash their creativity and drive meaningful change in our community,” she said.

LIM encouraged students to see themselves as ambassadors of Hong Kong, demonstrating the resilience, strength and spirit that make the city one of the most cosmopolitan and successful in the world.

Marina TONG, Chief Operating Officer, Hong Kong, HSBC, and a former recipient of the HSBC Overseas Scholarship participated in a panel discussion with HSBC Scholars alumni. Alongside an HSBC volunteer, they shared insights on community service and the value of volunteering and giving back to the community.

HSBC employee volunteers, for example, have contributed over one million hours to mentor young people, care the elderly and respond to environmental issues in Hong Kong.

HSBC's six flagship scholarship programmes in Hong Kong include the "HSBC Overseas Scholarship," "HSBC Hong Kong Scholarship," "Innovation and Technology Scholarship," "HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship," "HSBC Social Work Scholarship," and "HSBC Vocational Education Scholarship." To date, HSBC has awarded more than HKD270 million in scholarships to support exceptional Hong Kong students.
