HSBC launches special measures to support note exchange ahead of Chinese New Year

HSBC will introduce a range of special arrangements from 14 to 28 January 2025 to support note exchanges by customers prior to the Chinese New Year.

With positive feedback received last year, HSBC will continue to provide HKD20 and HKD50 good-as-new notes for withdrawal via selected ATMs between 14 and 20 January 2025. The service will be available at Express Banking outlets in the Mong Kok Branch, Kwun Tong Branch and Tuen Mun Town Plaza Branch, as well as the ATMs on the three mobile branches1 visiting 18 public housing estates across the city.

At the same time, new and good-as-new notes will be available for exchange across HSBC’s retail outlets from 14 to 28 January 2025. Customers can make online booking starting 7 January 2025 to reduce queuing time.

Separately, customers are also encouraged to send eLaisee, using PayMe or via FPS on HSBC HK App, to express their best wishes for the Chinese New Year.

Details of the special arrangement as below:

  • From 7 January 2025, customers can make appointments via HSBC HK App (both full mode and lite mode) or HSBC website (www.hsbc.com.hk) to exchange for ready pack of new/good-as-new notes between 14 and 28 January 2025. Each ready pack has a value of HKD3,000/HKD6,0002. Customers will receive an SMS confirmation for their booking;
  • From 14 to 16 January 2025, HSBC branches3 will open one hour earlier at 8:00 am to support the higher demand for banking services;
  • Walk-in customers can get same-day tickets at branches in the morning from 14 to 28 January 2025, they can then exchange for banknotes at a specific time slot;
  • Express counters will be set up for quick exchange of ready pack;
  • All customers can exchange for good-as-new notes without prior reservation;
  • HSBC Premier Elite and HSBC Premier customers can pre-order notes through their directors/relationship managers to ensure availability and collect at their preferred time and service branch.
