HSBC, TERA-Award and Green Accelerator partnership to fast track adoption of climate tech in Hong Kong

*** HSBC Climate Tech Connect Programme launches in Hong Kong ***

The HSBC Climate Tech Connect Programme made its official debut in partnership with TERA-Award and Green Accelerator, bringing together corporates, investors and innovators to help accelerate the adoption of climate technology in the real economy.

The 12-week programme will connect HSBC’s corporate and investor clients with TERA-Award and Green Accelerator’s participants and alumni through curated matchmaking and structured engagement, including bespoke one-to-one introductions, tech showcase sessions and follow-up working meetings.

The ambition is to translate these connections into pilots and commercial partnerships, enabling promising technologies to move faster from innovation to deployment and scale. Participating clients, investors and climate tech innovators will look to deploy solutions to address sustainability challenges across energy, water and waste management.

Natalie BLYTH, Global Head of Sustainable Finance and Transition, HSBC, said: “Hong Kong’s role as a leading hub for innovation, international connectivity and financial markets, combined with its proximity to Chinese Mainland, makes it an exceptional launchpad for climate tech companies to scale across the region. Through the HSBC Climate Tech Connect Programme, we’ll connect the participants with the networks, expertise and market opportunities they need to commercialise, win partnerships and grow.”

Alan CHAN Ying-lung, Executive Chairman of the TERA-Award Organising Committee, said: “TERA-Award is more than a competition — it is an innovation hub and global platform that brings together some of the most promising climate tech projects and breakthrough innovations. By connecting top innovators with industry leaders, investors and ecosystem partners, TERA-Award helps accelerate the journey from technology development to commercial adoption and growth. HSBC plays a key role in this mission by connecting our alumni with corporate partners to explore real-world applications and commercial opportunities. Through the HSBC Climate Tech Connect Programme, we aim to turn valuable connections into meaningful climate impact.”

Dr. MA Jun, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee of the Green Accelerator, said: “The Green Accelerator will provide acceleration and empowerment services to green technology projects across developing economies. Our goal is to enhance their bankability and build robust project pipelines for multilateral development banks (MDBs), sovereign wealth funds, and commercial financial institutions.” He further noted that “working alongside the HSBC Climate Tech Connect Programme, we can help connect innovators with corporate demand, starting with demonstration opportunities in Hong Kong and scaling successful solutions across the region.”

TERA-Award has attracted over 2,500 projects from 76 countries and regions and awarded total prize funding of USD4.65 million since its launch in 2021. In addition to the competition, the Award supports participating and alumni projects through real-world application matching and financing facilitation, including initiatives such as the HSBC Climate Tech Connect Programme.

HSBC is a founding member of the Hong Kong-based Green Accelerator, a new non-profit platform designed to help green projects in developing countries source and utilise green technologies and secure investment. The platform will use philanthropic capital to facilitate project design and preparation and provide technical and capacity-building support.
