Scan, tap and pay: go cashless in taxis with PayMe and HSBC credit cards

Now accepted by 3,500+ taxis and 47,000+ taxi drivers in Hong Kong
Starting today, users of PayMe by HSBC and HSBC credit cardholders can pay cashless in more than 3,500 taxis across Hong Kong—marking another milestone in the city’s shift towards e-payments in public transport.

From 1 April, passengers will have access to at least two electronic payment options per taxi, including a QR-code payment method that enables customers to pay using only a mobile device.

HSBC credit cardholders can already make card payments in over 3,500 taxis operated by Hong Kong’s premium taxi fleets. The addition of PayMe, enabled through various payment means including the collaboration with Octopus, will further expand acceptance to a network of over 47,000 taxi drivers.

Janet Pang, Head of Retail Business, Hong Kong, HSBC, said: “Local commuters choose taxis for speed and convenience—and they expect a seamless way to pay. As digital payments continue to permeate Hong Kong, we’re excited that PayMe and credit cards are now available for paying taxi fares citywide, making every ride smoother than ever. This aligns with our commitment to support Hong Kong’s evolution into a smart city, where e-payment plays a key role.”
